Course Description –
This is an Institute Course that is Cross-Listed with the Seminary for 3-credits. In this course we will begin exploring the difference between pastoral care, counseling, and care. Then we will review the development of pastoral care through history. We will look at the theological perspective in pastoral care. We will discuss how to conduct pastoral conversations, will study models of pastoral care in crisis and consolation, and will study family systems. As part of the curriculum, we will also consider the Theology of suffering in the book of Job.Students will have weekly readings and assignments, as well as a pastoral care project in their places of ministry as a proposal to develop throughout the course.
